Homelessness

When you hear the word homelessness what image comes to mind?  You might be reminded of earlier this afternoon when despite your best efforts, you were stopped at a traffic light right by the man holding a cardboard sign.
As your gaze was fixed on the streetlight, you couldn't depict the words on the sign that read:
Perhaps that's the problem with society.
By refusing to look, we cannot see the real picture.

It's easy to turn your cheek on societal issues such as homelessness.  Ignorance is bliss, right?
There are a number of assumptions and stereotypes that only strengthen an individual's decision to ignore homelessness in their community:
"It's not my problem"
"The issue is to big to solve"
"They are just dirty old drug addicts"
"They've given up"

The truth:
Homelessness affects us all.
If we work together we can decrease the number of homeless individuals and families in our community.
Homelessness is not discriminatory- men, women, and children of all ages have no permanent residence to call home.
The majority of homeless individuals in our country are striving
to better their living situation but the constructs of
our society forbid the to do so.

Rescue Outreach Mission is a human resources agency in Seminole County that provides a safe, supportive and healing environment in which disadvantaged or homeless people receive the assistance they need to return to self sufficiency.

We believe that in order address the issue of homelessness in our community, we must empower these individuals and families so that they may better their lives.
If you feel concern for the homeless population in our community or if you are interested in learning more about our organization, keep an eye on our blog!
